The Befriender Scheme
Parents Supporting Parents – if you need help, or just someone to talk to our befrienders will help.
Just give us a call on 01278 691100 or email
Our team of volunteer befrienders are here to help.
Every Ups and Downs Southwest befriender is a parent too – someone whose own child has Down Syndrome. They know what it is like to cope with a new diagnosis and can offer support parent to parent.
Befrienders provide emotional support to parents at the time of diagnosis or at any other time when a parent may feel overwhelmed with issues relating to their child’s Down Syndrome.
We link parents with volunteer befrienders who live nearby.
Every befriender receives ongoing professional support to make sure they are comfortable in their important role.
The scheme is run by a professional coordinator- someone working in the field of disability with close links to professionals and other relevant organisation in the area.
The Ups and Downs Southwest Volunteer Befrienders Scheme is free and confidential.
