Five More Years of Funding for Bristol Service
The Big Lottery Community Fund
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Ups and Downs Southwest has secured another grant from The Big Lottery Community Fund, ensuring the continuation and expansion of our Bristol service for another five years!
Since launching in Bristol, our service has become a vital resource for families, schools, and professionals supporting children and young people with Down Syndrome. Thanks to this incredible funding, we will continue delivering and strengthening key areas of support, including:
- Family Support – Offering guidance, advocacy, and a listening ear to families navigating the challenges and joys of raising a child with Down Syndrome.
- School Liaison – Working closely with schools to ensure pupils with Down Syndrome receive the tailored education and inclusion they deserve.
- Post-16 Support – Helping young people transition into adulthood with opportunities for further education, employment, and independent living skills. Youth Club – Providing a safe, fun, and inclusive space for young people to connect, build friendships, and develop confidence.
- Volunteer Befriender Program – Training and connecting volunteers with families who would benefit from additional support.
Expanding Our Reach, Deepening Our Impact
With this funding, we expect to support over 300 families and professionals across the city, ensuring that those who need us most can access information, advice, and practical help. Over the last five years, we have become a trusted and visible part of the Bristol community, frequently sought out by health, education, and social care professionals for our expertise. This grant allows us to build on that foundation, continuing to make a meaningful difference, changing attitudes, and raising awareness.
