Hosting free Makaton Signed Story Sessions at the Waterstones bookstore in Weston-super-Mare. No reservations are necessary – experience the magic of Makaton in storytelling.
Nikki is a Makaton Tutor located in the heart of North Somerset and extends her reach to cover Somerset as well. Beyond her professional role, Nikki is also a loving parent to a child with Down Syndrome.
With a mission to empower and educate through Makaton, Nikki offers a diverse range of workshops. These include engaging Taster Sessions, comprehensive Levels 1-4 training, and the invaluable Makaton Signing for Babies & Families program. For those on the frontline, there’s specialised training available too.
The commitment to excellence doesn’t stop there, as Nikki is on the path to becoming certified in Makaton Safeguarding and using Makaton with Singing, promising an even broader skill set to share with the community.

The Strawberry Line Cafe is a community cafe at Yatton railway station, employing people with learning difficulties.
A friendship & support cafe for young people with additional needs. This will take place on Wednesdays after school from 4-6 pm.
Snacks, meals and drinks will be available to purchase.

Playpark: inclusive settling sessions
Times: 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Thursdays and Sundays
Our inclusive settling sessions are for disabled children so they can enjoy all areas of the play park with their siblings and family.
To access the site, parent/carers must show their Bristol Register of Disabled Children Pink Card, or other local equivalent.

Start discovering! With over 60 pages of fun and brilliant ideas, exercises and activities that are disability-specific, covering everything from wheelchair games and core stability exercises to massage and music therapy, we’ve tried to create helpful resources that can be tried at home.
For families that live in, or can access, Bristol and the surrounding areas, Gympanzees offer a website packed full of ideas for children with a whole spectrum of differences, including Down syndrome. There are

- resources to borrow
- on-line webinars with their therapists.

Kingsmoor Playground – North Somerset
Kingsmoor Playground
This playground is for children with additional needs and their families. It is securely enclosed and has specially designed equipment such as wheelchair swing, sandpit, slide. There is lots of space for children to run around as well as picnic tables and rain shelter.
Families need to register with Yeo Valley Lions and pay a one off fee of £2. A code is needed to enter the playground and entry is then free.
The Disabled Children’s Team North Somerset run family fun days here throughout the summer holidays which are free. Further information on these days can be found from Family Support, Disabled Children’s Team, 01934427615.
There are no toilets on site.
